CURA Theory is an independent nail studio on Grand Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, specialising in detailed custom nail art on natural nails and on extensions. The studio runs by appointment, with walk-ins taken when there is availability, and opens Monday to Saturday from 10am to 8pm and Sunday from 10am to 7pm.
The menu covers gel manicures, Gel-X soft gel extensions, hard gel overlays, sculpted hard gel extensions and fills, and pedicures. Nail art is booked in three tiers priced by how many design elements a set combines, from a single effect such as French tips or chrome, through mixed finishes and light 3D work, up to freestyle and heavily detailed sets with no set ceiling. Removals have to be booked alongside a full set rather than added on the day. Acrylic and dip powder are not offered.
The studio's signature service is the Takumi manicure, a Japanese dry manicure that prepares the nail without soaking the hands, using fine e-file bits for cuticle work and finishing with advanced nail art included. It is performed only by technicians trained in that cuticle work. CURA Theory does not offer Russian manicures, and the gel systems it uses are formulated without TPO and HEMA.
